Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara) Empowerment, Teachings, Practice & Tsok Feast
Saturday, February 20th, 10am – noon & 2pm – 5pm
This is a very special opportunity to receive the empowerment of Chenrezig, the enlightened mind of compassion from Khenpo Choephel Rinpoche. Chenrezig’s mantra, Om Mani Padme Hung Hri, is considered by many great masters to be one of the purest, simplest and most potent of mantras. |
 |
The merit accumulated from taking this empowerment and reciting the mantra is vast, and we are honored to have Rinpoche share the blessings of Chenrezig with us. Khenpo-la will bestow the empowerment in the presence of the Chenrezig mandala, which was created by himself, Lama Konchok Sonam Rinpoche, and many of their students. Then, learn or enhance your Chenrezig practice with Rinpoche and seal the accumulated merit with the Tsok feast ritual. Bring either flowers, tea lights, unopened snack foods all which make excellent offerings for the Tsok.

Lord Jigten Sumgon’s The Unification of Co-emergent Mahamudra Teachings and Transmission
Sunday, February 21st, 10am – noon & 2pm – 5pmMahamudra (and Dzogchen) are the highest meditation practices. Even if we are not yet at that level, it is important to listen to these teachings from a realized master to prepare our minds to actualize them. The subject of these teachings is Mahamudra, the "great seal". Lord Jigten Sumgon, the second Nagarjuna, was the foremost disciple of Phagmodrupa and founder of the Drikung Kagyu lineage. He had more than 100,000 disciples at a time- as the famous saying goes "the mountains are filled with Drikung practitioners and the plains are filled with Drikung patrons".
His teachings from his own experience are well know for their clarity and precision. While the quintessence of Lord Jigten Sumgon’s discourses are contained in the Gong Chig (see below), the Co-emergent Mahamudra is the amalgamation of essential pith instructions on meditation in the Buddha’s teachings.

The Gong Chig is the essential guide for every Dharma practitioner, and we are overjoyed that Rinpoche is returning to continue these precious teachings. Rinpoche taught Vajra Verses 1-130 last fall. Biography
Khenpo Choephel Rinpoche
Khenpo Choephel Rinpoché comes from Drikung Thil Monastery in Tibet, the head-monastery of the Drikung Kagyu lineage, where he held the title of Chant and Ritual Master.
Khenpo Rinpoché was ordained a monk by Vajradhara Pachung Rinpoché at a young age. While at Drikung Thil, he received many teachings and instructions first from Pachung Rinpoché and later from Pachung Rinpoché's successor, Gelong Rinpoché, Vajradhara Tenzin Nyima. Aside from having received extensive teachings in Mahamudra from these two great masters, Khenpo also received teachings from H.H. Chungtsang Rinpoche, H.E. Soktrul Rinpoche, H.E. Nyatak Rinpoche, and many, many others and is a master in the ritual-traditions of Drikung Thil himself. Khenpo also received training in debate and philosophy at Drepung Monastery in Tibet. Before he left Drikung Thil for Nepal, Khenpo Rinpoché served as the chant-master of the monastery. In 2007, he was appointed "Khenpo" by Drikung Thil Monastery and was sent as its representative to the Tibetan Meditation Center in Frederick, Maryland where he now is a Spiritual Director. Gentle and unassuming, Khenpo Rinpoché teaches in a relaxed yet engaging manner, and is a joy to be around. His teachings are incisive, direct and heart-felt.
